Week 3 & 4

Wow - what a busy start to the term! With Confirmation retreat day, Interschool, Confirmation Commitment mass, Parent and Child Workshop, Peace Poster Announcement and testing! Wow-wee! 

A very big OLC warm welcome to our wonderful new principal Mrs Angela Hegney! We are so delighted to have you join us at our school! 
 

CONFIRMATION PREPARATION

Our Confirmation Mass is set to take place on Saturday the 28th of October at 6pm at Our Lady of the Southern Cross Parish.

As part of our Confirmation Program at the school, it is expected that all students participate, whether it be in a prayer buddy (Non-Catholic) or Confirmation Candidate (Catholic) capacity. This means that all students have been exposed to the learning behind this sacrament, as well as having a part within the mass. Obviously those who aren't Catholic will not officially receive the Sacrament of Confirmation but will be included in things such as the liturgical movement, a blessing and receive a certificate. It is always great to see the students supporting one another as a collective, especially in their final year at Primary school.

Saint Box Assignment 
The students have now had two weeks to prepare their Saint Box Assignment both at home and at school. At school they have completed the speech component, they will take this home on Thursday to start practising the oral component of their speech, ensuring they work on their presenting skills. The artistic, creative component was to be completed at home which includes their Saint Box. This project is due this upcoming Monday the 23rd October. 

The Saint Box and speech is due Monday 23rd of October (week 3) and the presentations will begin Tuesday 24th of October.

Peace Poster:
A massive congratulations to Scarlett McNeill for her Peace Poster win on Friday. Scarlett you did a wonderful job and really brought the theme this year "Dare to Dream" to life in your creative poster. Thank you to Kaye from the Lyons club for coming along for the announcement and for the Lyons club for providing such a wonderful competition for our students to enter every year. All the year 6 crew did an exceptional job on their posters and they should all be so proud of their entries. 




School Photos:
School photos will be taken on Thursday 26 October. I sent the photo information with the students last week for ordering. The Year 6 students are expected to wear their formal school uniforms on photo day.

  8. Friday 10th November - Pupil Free Day 
  9. Wednesday 29th November - OLC Christmas Concert 
  10. Thursday 7th December - Year 6 End of Year Excursion 
  11. Friday 8th December - Year 6 Graduation 
  12. Friday 8th December - OLC Colour Run and Last day of School 
Homework - Due this upcoming Monday 23rd October 2023
  • Saint Box Assignment 
  • Practice Saint oral presentation (this will be written in class time)
  • 30 minutes reading per night (please log in the diary and sign at the end of each week)
  • Any unfinished class tasks.

  K AY A, Can you believe that there is only 15 days left in Primary School for your child? WOW! Not only that but most of these days will include end of year excursion, practice at the Church and in the hall for Graduation and lots of end of year preparations!  Year 6 End of Year Gift  A massive thank you to the three wonderful parents who came along on Wednesday in week 6 to complete the end of year 6 gift artwork. The students did a really wonderful job on their own individual paver, which together will make up the OLC Reconciliation Pathway to the Aboriginal area at the back of the school. What an amazing legacy to leave behind - so watch this space! Well done team! Graduation Practice and Year 6 Busy Bee  Graduation Practice will start down at the Church in week 7 and 8. The students are allowed to wear their sport uniform on these days. This will be a strong focus for the next few weeks.   K AY A, I hope you have all had a tremendous break with this cracker sunshine. 🌞 I cannot wait to see the 6M family back in the classroom for an AWESOME term 4! We are going to end their time at OLC with smiles, busy times, Confirmation, Graduation, Excursions, Incursions and lots of learning! Peace Poster: The results of the peace poster competition will be announced at a small assembly on Friday the 13th. (Just the Year 6 students will be in attendance). Week 6&7 - Term 3

  K AY A, We hope you enjoyed a little peace and quiet last week, whilst your child was having the time of their life at camp. Hopefully it didn't take them too long to recover from the epic adventure that it was. Luckily we had that perfectly timed long weekend as a chance to recharge for the remainder of the term. Camp 2023: There is no doubt your child was bursting at the seams to share their amazing tales and stories from camp, well after a bit of sleep...that is😊. We had the best time and the students made you guys very proud. They showed resilience and bravery in all activities, as well as kindness and respect to everyone around them. They were their teams' greatest cheer leaders, offering such wonderful support to each other. 💛 They completed any task that was asked of them with efficiency and no fuss. In the coming weeks the students will have access to a folder where they can view all the pictures taken by the teachers. You can then revisit the stories and activities
