End of Term 3

 KAYA,

Wow-wee! Term 3 has really been a whirlwind, and we are not even close to finishing yet.

Firstly, well done to the superb talent at OLC's Got Talent on Friday! Well done to the Arts team who assisted with running the event! Next week, we will hope to welcome you all to the classroom for Learning Journey on Wednesday and then we have the massive OLC Sports Carnival on Friday! We will be praying for blue skies! πŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ’“

Peace Poster:
We have been blown away by the student's efforts on their Peace Poster this year. The posters will be available for viewing in the hall during Learning Journey, so don't forget to pay a stop to the hall. The students and staff from OLC will start voting for the peace poster winner this week. The winner will be announced on the first week back to school in Term 4.
Little Archie:
In Art, students are practicing drawing techniques to assist with their upcoming Junior Archie (Archibald) portrait challenge.  In class, students have been working on techniques to help them draw facial features.  They practice their technique before showing this on an A3 page that combines their learning.  If your child doesn't complete the good copy in class time, they will bring their good copy home to complete.  Students have access to all videos to assist them complete their good copies on Onenote. If your child has brought this work home to be completed, it is due on Wednesday back to Mr McSevich.

Open Class - Learning Journey:
This Wednesday, our classrooms will be open from 3.15 - 5pm, for you to come and spend some time with your child to look through what we've been working on in class. We look forward to seeing you there.

OLC Sport Carnival:
This Friday, we will be hosting the OLC Sport Carnival, starting at 9.15am. πŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ’™πŸ’“ We cannot wait to see our Year 6 students step up to showcase their awesome leadership skills, supporting Mrs Sinclair to run the event on the day as well as having a go at their individual and team games, whilst enjoying every minute of their last ever sport carnival. All classes have been competing already for their throw and jump events with Mrs Sinclair during their PE classes.

This year we have an exciting Parents vs Staff vs Year 6 students, shuttle relay and pass ball events at the end of the Carnival. Thank you to Honor Saunders for volunteering (gently persuaded) to captain the teams. Please see Honor if you would like to compete against the Year 6's and the staff "dream teams". Please come and “Scream for your Team” and enjoy the day. To help with the organisation and smooth running of the day, please read the information included below:
  • Parking will be available in the top Cape Naturaliste Car Park and Sloan Drive with some limited availability in the lower gravel car park.
  • Students are to wear their faction colour t-shirt. Faction coloured mascots may be brought to decorate faction bays and Banners are highly encouraged!
  • Parents are asked to sit on the car park side of the track in the area designated by the bunting.
  • Due to the large number of students in a confined space, parents are asked not to visit the faction bays while the carnival is in progress.
  • Younger siblings are not to visit the faction bays or play on the track during the events as this can distract participants and cause confusion in the bays.
  • We ask parents to closely supervise small children, especially around the bunting.
  • Students will need to take their bags with them to the oval so they can have morning tea, drinks & lunch during the carnival.
  • Please apply sunscreen to your child before they leave home in the morning. Extra screen will be available in the faction bays. If your child has a sunscreen sensitivity, please ensure they bring their own sunscreen for further application.
  • Please refrain from entering the finish line area, as this is very disruptive for the officials.
  • Parents may take their children straight home after the sports carnival presentations if they wish. Please inform your class teacher if you are taking your child home early so they can check them off the class list.

Confirmation Preparation:
Saint Name Choice: Over the past week, we have started our confirmation preparation in class for Confirmation early next term. The students have picked their Confirmation Saint Name, this is especially important for our Confirmation candidates. Please have a chat with your child about their name choice and ensure that as a family you are happy with the choice. We will be starting our research project next week and writing our Saint Biography in writing.

Confirmation Candidate Sponsor (Confirmation Candidates only...): On the day of Confirmation, the candidates will also have their sponsor in attendance at the sacrament. The sponsor needs to be a Catholic over the age of 18, can't be the child's parent, but could be another relative. The role of the sponsor is to be a person who can guide the candidate through life's challenges with a Catholic perspective. It is similar to the role of the God Parent at Baptism, and sometimes a child's God Parent is also their Confirmation Sponsor. On the day of the Sacrament, the sponsor has a small role in the ceremony.

Confirmation Sashes (Confirmation Candidates only...): This week there will be a letter sent home with the Confirmation candidates only about the Confirmation Sashes. These sashes have been ordered, if you would like the embroidering on these done by Hip Pocket we are asking that you return the form with the child's saint name, family name and selected colour with $20 by the end of Week 10. We are sorry to put a rush on this, however the embroiders need a couple of weeks to ensure these are completed in time.
Please see below of what this will look like:
