Week 7 - Holland and Isabelle

{~ Week 6 Term 1 Blog ~}❤

Kaya! Bunuru! The Wadandi season has come and is one of the hottest times of the year, with little to no rain.
Traditionally this was, and still is, a good time for living and fishing by the coasts and rivers. Bunuru is also a time of the white flowers with lots of white flowering gums in full bloom, including jarrah, marri, and ghost gums.

What we’ve been learning~

Maths –

In maths we are learning about time, and specifically 24-hour time. That we have just started, but previously we have learnt all about 3d shapes. Including an activity where the group with the most 3d shapes made in a time limit would win money. We will also start to learn more about roman numerals and why we use them, and why we use 24-hour time. Mr Mac has told us that using 24-hour time is easier than normal time. Well, that’s it really!  (I'm really funny!!)

Literacy –

In literacy we are studying the chronicles of Narnia. It’s an amazing novel, and an exciting, beautiful movie. We are watching bits of the movie and recreating our own story of Narnia. Using our five senses, we are recreating our own sizzling start for our story. I recommend this book/movie a lot! I’ve watched it before so that
recommendation is coming from someone who’s actually watched it. Trust me. πŸ˜‰

(We have also had our literacy groups)

 Art –

In art we have finished our drip painting. This painting was completely inspired by Jackson Pollock. This painter paints what his mood is in the moment. For example, if he only used blues and greys and blacks, that probably meant he was sad. These paintings were where we dripped paint using our brushes. Some people use some pretty vivid  colours. After they’d dried, we drew a character or animal with black pen, and made them somehow connected with our painting. It was pretty fun and cool.

Additional Information From Mr Mc

Writing:

Over the last week, we have started writing our own version of the story of Narnia - Narnia Retold. We have included a new and exciting story starter and a description of how the protagonist finds the cupboard. From there the students used their 5 senses to help describe the world beyond the wardrobe. Their inclusion of adjectives, alliteration and wonderful descriptions have ensured that these stories will be an exciting read. Next week we will be creating our very own "Narnian" character to add into the story.

Please note: We intend to watch the rest of  'Narnia - the Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe' over the upcoming weeks to help prompt the story. This will be mixed with the audible novel. This movie is rated PG, therefore I am required to inform you and ask that if you would prefer that your child didn't see the film that you notify me of this ASAP.

Thanks for your consideration.

*Family Moment* Watch Narnia as a family over the upcoming weeks or listen to the audible story.

Dear Parents, currently at OLC we are focusing on modelling and observing different character strengths. This week we are looking for people who show gratitude.
"If we are to be bearers of gratitude, the world itself will become better, even if only a little bit, but that is enough to transmit hope" Pope Francis. 2020.

Crazy Socks

Dear Parents,

As you may already be aware World Down Syndrome Day on the 21st of March.  To celebrate this day this year, we are holding a whole school activity centred around the celebration of the day whilst also raising awareness and raising some money for the Down Syndrome WA organisation at the same time. On Monday the 21st of March, we will be hosting a crazy sock day at school. However, it will have a twist, the students will design their sock in art the week before the date (next week). This will celebrate everybody and their individualities and their creativities. What we need from you? Can you please send an old light colour pair of socks to school with your child next week? (Please do not purchase a new one). Can you please make sure that the socks have the students name on the inside? The students will then decorate them during art class. It will be amazing to see all those sock designs on the day and would be a great way to reiterate the true meaning of the day about celebrating people's uniqueness. Then on the 21st of March, the students will wear their awesome designed socks and if possible, bring a gold coin donation for Down Syndrome WA.
