Term 4!!

Wow, how is it term 4 already?  

I hope you enjoyed the holidays and that your children are ready and raring to go this term, I know I am!!  My plan for Term 4 is to help prepare your child for high school, whilst enjoying their last few months at Our Lady of the Cape.


Peace Poster Winner
Well done to Alexandra Youlden for her outstanding peace poster submission. She was voted the winner of OLC Peace Poster competition by the teachers and Year 1-6 students. Well done to all who competed, there were so many different and creative ideas on display.  This piece also forms part of your child's assessment pieces towards their grade. Please note that I am awaiting posters from a very small numbers of students, so if your child has not submitted their artwork, please encourage them to do so. 

Graduation PowerPoint 
Graduation is fast approaching and planning for this occasion has already commenced.  To assist, I ask that you please find and email me a photo of your child as a baby and/or toddler. Photos will be used to create a PowerPoint for Graduation, as well as others from their time at OLC. If you have any ripper photos from your child's time at OLC, we would greatly appreciate any donations. Please email them through so I can get onto this job as soon as I can.

Stationary  
If you can please take a moment to remind your child to clean out their pencil cases and check if they are missing anything. Over the last few weeks in Term 3, I noticed that students were still walking around for glue, erasers and coloured pencils and textas. Students having what they need goes a long way to helping them feel organised and in control. Also, your child will need a compass and a protractor for week 1 of Term 4. 

Laptops
Please also remind your child to put their laptop on charge ready for each day, as work that is not complete in class because of a flat laptop will be sent home for ADDITIONAL homework.  Further, I have been noticing that students are not placing their laptops into the protective cases.  I ask that you remind your child to do this as it should minimise any damage should their bag or laptop be dropped.

28th October - Grandparents Day 
4th November - OLC Swimming Carnival 
11th November - Student Free Day 
23rd November - OLC AGM 
2nd December - International Day of Disabilities 
7th December - Christmas Concert
8th December - Year 6 Excursion Extravaganza 
9th December - Year 6 Graduation, last day of school, colour run. 

Homework

The students homework is due on Wednesday, 12th October. 

Please ensure all students are completing their homework and getting you to check it with a signature nightly and then signing the reading log and homework diary on a Tuesday afternoon before it is returned. Students who have not completed their homework will complete it during class time and during recess and lunch, an email will also be sent home to notify you. This organisation and time management skills is vital to aid in an easier transition to high school. 

Home Learning includes:

  1. Reading x 40 minutes every night - students to write up the pages that they read that night and the parent to sign every night.
  2. Math - Ultimate Time tables quiz and figure out the number question challenge. 
  3. High school preparation questions (please read and answer these questions with your child). 
  4. Any unfinished class tasks.

  K AY A, Can you believe that there is only 15 days left in Primary School for your child? WOW! Not only that but most of these days will include end of year excursion, practice at the Church and in the hall for Graduation and lots of end of year preparations!  Year 6 End of Year Gift  A massive thank you to the three wonderful parents who came along on Wednesday in week 6 to complete the end of year 6 gift artwork. The students did a really wonderful job on their own individual paver, which together will make up the OLC Reconciliation Pathway to the Aboriginal area at the back of the school. What an amazing legacy to leave behind - so watch this space! Well done team! Graduation Practice and Year 6 Busy Bee  Graduation Practice will start down at the Church in week 7 and 8. The students are allowed to wear their sport uniform on these days. This will be a strong focus for the next few weeks.   K AY A, I hope you have all had a tremendous break with this cracker sunshine. 🌞 I cannot wait to see the 6M family back in the classroom for an AWESOME term 4! We are going to end their time at OLC with smiles, busy times, Confirmation, Graduation, Excursions, Incursions and lots of learning! So, without further ado, let's get into it!  How awesome were the costumes for book week? Peace Poster: The results of the peace poster competition will be announced at a small assembly on Friday the 13th. (Just the Year 6 students will be in attendance). If your child is a winner, we will contact you early week 1, so that you can arrange someone to attend.  CONFIRMATION PREPARATION Our Confirmation Mass is set to take place on   Saturday the 28th of October at 6pm at Our Lady of the Southern Cross Parish . Week 6&7 - Term 3

  K AY A, We hope you enjoyed a little peace and quiet last week, whilst your child was having the time of their life at camp. Hopefully it didn't take them too long to recover from the epic adventure that it was. Luckily we had that perfectly timed long weekend as a chance to recharge for the remainder of the term. Camp 2023: There is no doubt your child was bursting at the seams to share their amazing tales and stories from camp, well after a bit of sleep...that is😊. We had the best time and the students made you guys very proud. They showed resilience and bravery in all activities, as well as kindness and respect to everyone around them. They were their teams' greatest cheer leaders, offering such wonderful support to each other. 💛 They completed any task that was asked of them with efficiency and no fuss. In the coming weeks the students will have access to a folder where they can view all the pictures taken by the teachers. You can then revisit the stories and activities
