Week 9 and 10, Term 2

 KAYA,

Welcome to Week 10......almost halfway through the year already!!

The last few weeks have been very busy for the Year 6's with dance concerts and cross country on top of our usual end of term work! Over the last week we have had a few year 6's out with sickness, so hopefully now we are able to get through last week of school health and ready to learn.

Well done to all the students who took part in OLC Cross Country, it was a great day and the rain stayed away until the end, what more could we ask for? Well done to all our winners and to everyone who showed resilience and determination and tried their best! I was so proud of all the Year 6 students that took part on the day.

How good was the OLCircus dance extravaganza!! Well done to Mrs Haines on another very successful dance show! The Year 6 students were absolutely fantastic, whether they be dancing, organising, on set design, costumes, music, choreography, decorating or backstage.  It really was the greatest show! Even with a broken trampoline! πŸ˜†

Our Learning:
Writing: Over the past week we have been completing our good copy of our persuasive text "Children under 13 should be banned from social media".  This week we will be starting our hot task research for our brightpath writing task, "booger flavored bubblegum is a must". Students can decide to write in support of the statement or against. Next term we will be moving into information writing tasks, whilst exploring our class aboriginal totems and preparing for Confirmation.

Math: Last week, we started our summative math investigation. This investigation tasked the students with creating a board game that includes four types of fraction based math sums; adding and subtracting fractions, equivalent fractions and fractions as decimals. The students had to plan, design and create their board game. Then they will need to play their board game this upcoming Wednesday with a peer and evaluate and reflect on this. The students will post their design and their evaluation and reflection on Seesaw - so, watch this space!

Minecraft Project Design and Presentation - Update
Wow! That is the first word that I have to describe the students effort, design and creativity that they harnessed when creating their sustainable minecraft worlds. The students put in a mammoth effort and Mrs Hurst will be finalising her decision of the 5 groups that will represent OLC in the competition. It is going to be very difficult as they were all AMAZING!

Pen Pal Letters
We have been working on our pen pal letters to our elderly pen pals in Cape Care. The students have been showing the value of Compassion in the huge effort and energy they have been putting into creating beautiful cards, letters and keyrings. We hope our pen pals love their gifts as much as we loved creating them. πŸ’“
