Week 2

 KAYA and welcome back.

What a week it has been, with swimming lessons in the windy, choppy Geographe Bay, only to be told on the first calm day for the week that we couldn't swim!  The resilience that the children showed was magnificent and they should be proud of themselves.  Only one more week of swimming lessons to go!

Just a few reminders for this week.

COVID Classroom Update - Due to ongoing restrictions and general COVID19 awareness, we have set up our classrooms to ensure the safety of all. When entering the class please enter through the wet area, where you can wash your hands. This will become a requirement and a routine for anybody entering the class. In line with Government mandates people over 12 will need to wear a mask when entering the classrooms and scan in using the Safe WA QR code on the wet room windows. Please note there are two difference codes, one for 6H and one for 6M. At this point, students are not required but are more than welcome to wear masks indoors, especially if this makes them feel more comfortable. There was an email sent yesterday from the main office with more information please refer to that if you have any other questions.

Swimming Lessons - As with last week, swimming lessons will commence at 9am on the beach. We will be departing the school by by bus at 8.45am at the latest. To ensure that this runs smoothly, your child will need to arrive to school on time.
Please support your child to ensure they come to school ready for swimming.  Children can wear bathers and rashies under their sport uniform, but please ensure that they have sunscreen on before arriving to school as we will not have time to apply before arriving at the beach. We will take extra sunscreen to the beach in case. Students will need to wear their enclosed sport shoes to school and bring their thongs with them. They can change as soon as they arrive to school. We will arrive back at school after swimming lessons at approx 10.10am. Please ensure that all clothing and equipment including googles are appropriately labelled to avoid the inevitable 'lost equipment'.

Book and Stationary Orders - We have a few children missing parts of their book order.  When this arrives, please send it in to class.

Term 1 Timetable - Please see below picture of our current swimming class timetable for 6H starting Monday. There will be changes to this timetable in week 3 when swimming lessons ends. I will post the next timetable then.

Uniform – Please check in with the school website for the summer uniform policy and make sure that your child adheres to our guidelines. Both boys and girls must have their hair off their face and tied up if it falls below their collar.  Please note that during swimming lessons, students wear their full sports uniform every day.

Drink Bottles - Please support your child to remember their drink bottles.  It is very hot and so we need to ensure that we are drinking lots of water.  It can be disruptive to students that need to leave class to get a drink.

Making Jesus Real - Could you please check if your child has their Making Jesus Real book at home from last year. If the students have the books at home could you please support them to remember to bring it in to school please?

After School Sport and Running Club - After school sport and running club will commence in week 4 when the wonderful Mrs Sinclair gets back to school. After school sport will be held on a Thursday afternoon and running club will be on a Wednesday morning. Forms will be sent out soon.

External Support Providers – Parents, does your child receive services onsite at OLC during the school day? Either NDIS funded Speech Therapy, OT, Physiotherapy and the like, or music tuition from an outside provider? We are currently reviewing our policy and procedures around this space and require an audit. If your child engages in one of these services, please contact me via email with details as soon as possible. Thank you, amie.meyer@cewa.edu.au

Character strengths - Dear Parents, currently at OLC we are focusing on modeling and observing different character strengths. The strengths that we will focus on are taken directly from the VIA Institute for Character. If you wanted to learn more about this please follow the link to the 24 character strengths: https://www.viacharacter.org/character-strengths
This upcoming week we are looking for people who show Bravery. Can you encourage your child to reflect on the following?

Enjoy the remainder of the weekend and I look forward to seeing all the students on Monday.

Thanks for your ongoing support

Sean McSevich
